Week 2 Term 2 2015

What an amazing bunch of students and staff we have. We had ten students in Glenbrook uniform march in the Pukekohe dawn service for ANZAC. We had 64 students in school uniform at the Waiuku town service. This was the largest school turn out of students and staff. Plus we had many other students representing Scouts, Marriners, Girl Guides and other organisations. Week 1 Term 2 2015

Welcome back Glenbrook School whanau to Term 2. This is an eleven week term full of exciting learning opportunities and experiences. Winter sports began last weekend for many of our students. Well done to all our students who have made commitments to teams and sports this term. Week 9 Term 1 2015

Last week Glenbrook hosted Team Glenbrook’s Shave For A Cure. Our crazy hair mufti day raised $340 towards the cause. Currently the team has raised $2375. This is an amazing achievement. On Sunday I had the privledge in taking our Kapa Haka to the Franklin Cultural Festival. Our Years 7 and 8 team were runners up in the touch rugby module and our Years 5 and 6 team came fourth…. Tena koutou katoa, Last week was a busy week with Junior Syndicate visiting Auckland Museum, Middle Syndicate visiting Cornwall Park and yesterday the Senior Syndicate visiting Awhitu for Orientereering. Our teachers work hard to find learning opportunities outside the classroom that enhance the vocabulary and skills of your child. These are linked to the topics of the term. Prior to a school trip, teachers investigate risk assessment, communications, costs and notify the appropriate people. These trips do not just happen overnight. Week 6 Term 1 2015

Last week Years 3- 8 participated in our annual Swimming Sports. I was extremely impressed with the high number of students who participated in events and supported their Whanau. Congratulations to Totara who won both the Spirit Award and the 2015 Swimming Sports. A huge thank you to Mrs Simnor for organising a wonderful day. Week 5 Term 1 2015

What an an amazing community you all are. Our very successful gala raised over $27,000. This will be put towards the rebuild of the hall with our Parmco kitchen. I had the pleasure of attending the Senior Syndicate trip to Chosen Valley last Friday. It was well organized with some amazing personal challenges taking place amongst the students. We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs. Johanna Brown as the Year 7 and 8 teacher in Te Rakau Nui. Mrs. Brown is a beginning teacher who trained at Waikato University. During the application process she stood out to us with her high level of academia. A big thank you to our community, parents, staff and students for a fantastic start to our school year. The atmosphere is positive, full of energy and focused on learning.
