Week 3, Term 4 2022

Kia Ora Parents and Whanau,

Ako
Last week our amazing students in Teams Kereru and Pouakai showed their wonderful mana and ako at athletics. We loved watching our students give everything a go, support and cheer each other, and be proud of themselves and their friends. It was such a neat day. Well done to all those students who placed. The 200m finals, 400m and 800m will be run this week around class timetables.

It was so lovely to have school photos last Friday. We have not had photos for two years. Our tamariki looked gorgeous. We can’t wait to see the results!

NZ Curriculum Release
Last fortnight the NZ Curriculum English and Mathematics refresh drafts were released. This along with the Aotearoa Histories curriculum is a huge body of work our teachers will be synthesising and implementing in 2023. The NZ curriculum progress outcomes are organised into Foundation stage (years 0-3), Years 4-6, Years 7-8, Years 9-10, years 11-13.

Team Changes
In 2023 Glenbrook School will no longer have a Team Tui. Team Piwakawaka will include years 0-3. Team Kereru will include years 4-6 and Team Pouakai will be years 7 and 8. This will reflect how the NZ Curriculum progress outcomes and phases of learning are organised.

Akonui Hui (Parent Student Teacher Conferences)
Akonui Hui will be held on Thursday 17th November and Friday 18th November. There will be no classes on these days.  Please book your child’s interview on www.schoolinterviews.co.nz Code: ey934 This is now open.

Please note that Glenbrook School does not write traditional end of year reports. Your child’s assessment data, achievement levels and weekly learning achievements can be found on the Portal in Spotlight, Assessment and Achievement Report. This is a more up to date and timely reflection of what your child is achieving. Akonui Hui is the place to have a richer individual discussion about your child’s learning over the whole year.

If you are unable to attend in person, you are welcome to book in via the school interviews website and then email the teacher to set up a google meet online. This will be done through your child’s school gmail. We would prefer students attend Akonui Hui with their parents (even if it’s online). They do not have to wear school uniform.

Paid Union Meeting
Teachers will be attending a paid union meeting on Monday 21st November. We are unable to staff our school safely, therefore school will close at 12.00pm.

Camps and Trips
We love giving our students the many opportunities we offer at Glenbrook School. Our teachers put a lot of time and effort into organising and following up. Time that is outside their classroom responsibilities and the usual teaching load. Please make sure that you return notices promptly. We are also short of transport and parent help. If we do not meet our health and safety ratios we cannot proceed with events. Please if you can assist, contact your child’s teacher.

Thank you for the very cool dress ups today! Please check out the photos on our facebook page.
