Week 1, Term 4 2022 Newsletter
Kia Ora Parents and Whanau,
Welcome back to school and to Term 4. It has been a wonderful start to the term. This week we had students representing Glenbrook School at the years 5&6 girls Franklin basketball competition, Waiuku Group Day Calf Club and Auckland EPRO8 Grand final. Our Waiuku touch teams were back practising and students in years 5-8 have begun applying for 2023 Roles and Responsibilities positions.
Newsletters have gone home for Team Kereru camp, Team Tui camp, Y8 Vector Wera trip, Sailing, Snow Camp 2023 and Hillary Camp 2023. Thank you to the parents who attended the meeting for Snow Camp 2023 and the Year 8 Dinner. Our teachers have been busy meeting with students for student’s voice and Achievement Reports are being finalised. It is an extremely term so please make sure you are checking notices, newsletters and facebook page reminders. It is really important that you return notices asap as this effects the effectiveness of trip organisation.
2023 Enrolements
If your child is in years 0-7 and will NOT be returning to Glenbrook School in 2023, please email the office to let us know. We are currently busy organising classes for 2023 and preparing for transition.
Reclassification
We have had a large number of requests from parents to reclassify their children. At Glenbrook School we do not hold students back to repeat a year or move them forward to skip a year. The main concern is academic and social development due to covid, missing school or starting school later than usual. Please note that this is acknowledged across New Zealand and the world. Our teachers do a brilliant job of accelerating and progressing the development of our children. We cater for the whole child. Again I want to reiterate, we do not reclassify children.
Akonui Hui
Akonui Hui are our parent, teacher and student conference interviews. The end of year Akonui Hui are on Thursday 17th November and Friday 18th November. There will be no classes on these days. The interview code and booking sheets will be shared next week.
Assembly
Thank you to Team Pouakai for leading assembly yesterday. Congratulations to all our students who won the students council positions in years 0-6 for Term 4. Team Kereru is leading assembly on Friday.
Reminders
Next week is our Glenbrook Athletics for years 5-8 on Thursday 27th October. All students are able to wear their Whanau colours. Students must have a hat, bottle of water and sun screen.
School photos are on Friday 28th October. Sibling forms should have returned by now. Sports photos will start at 8.15 for netball followed the junior football. Whanau leaders and years 7&8 student councillors are reminded to bring their badges for photos. Students need to be in clean and tidy uniform with brushed hair please.
In Term 4 students must wear a Glenbrook hat outside. We have a no hat no play policy. These can be purchased from the office.
A reminder that the last full day of school is Friday 9th December. This will be students Whanau celebration day. The last day of school is Monday 12th but students will finish at 12pm. End of year prizegiving is on Thursday 8th December. We do expect all families to attend prizegiving. If you are not able to attend please email the office to let us know.
Thank you for a lovely week 1. Enjoy the long weekend and we look forward to seeing your children again on Tuesday.
