Week 8, Term 2 Newsletter
Bula vinaka, kia ora koutou and mālō e lelei,
We have had an exciting week at Glenbrook School, with a surprise visit from the NZ Police Eagle helicopter and Police Dog Sam. Our tamariki thoroughly enjoyed this special experience.
Year 4 had a wonderful day out exploring science and nature at Camp Adair, while our Year 8 students worked with the amazing team from DigiKōr to create a podcast. This is a fantastic opportunity for our senior students, giving them both an avenue and a structure to share their opinions, ideas and voices. We look forward to exploring further opportunities to grow the confidence of our aakonga in this space.
Akonui Hui – Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences: Tuesday 23 June
This term, Akonui Hui will be held on Tuesday 23 June for the majority of our classes. School will be closed for instruction on this day, as we do not have teacher aides available to supervise children. There will be no buses running on this day.
Parents and caregivers are able to book a face-to-face meeting, phone call, or online Google Meet for their hui.
On Wednesday 24 June, appointments will also be available for some classes. School will be open as usual on this day, as we are able to secure staffing to cover those classes needing additional appointments.
We are exploring whether Akonui Hui can be accommodated across a day and a half in future. This would help reduce pressure on working parents and caregivers, while still allowing us to adequately staff the school and maintain quality teaching and learning.
Bookings for Akonui Hui are now open. Please book through the School Interviews website:

Waiuku Matariki Concert: Friday 26 June
Our biennial Waiuku Schools Matariki Concert will be held on Friday 26 June. Glenbrook School is not due to perform until around 7.00pm-ish.
Students will get changed and prepare for the performance at Glenbrook School. Parents and caregivers will need to transport their child from Glenbrook School to Waiuku College at approximately 6.15pm, and collect them after the concert.
Students who are performing will be able to stay at school after 3.00pm. A notice will be sent home next week with further details.
Glenbrook Matariki Concert: Friday 3 July
Our tamariki are working hard in preparation for our own Matariki celebration. The concert will take place on Friday 3 July at 10.00am. All students will be performing as part of our Arts Curriculum.
A sausage sizzle will be available for purchase, kindly led by our wonderful PTA. Orders will be taken by classroom teachers on Friday morning.
If you are able to support your child’s class in any way, please reach out to your child’s teacher. We greatly value your involvement and support.
Students will be able to go home after the concert.
Staffing Update
We warmly welcome Miss Vahn Waitai as a training intervention teacher in Mathematics and English. Miss Waitai is an ex-Glenbrook student and a very talented artist.
We also welcome Mrs Grace Tuaiti, who begins as our new sports coach next week.
We farewell Miss Samantha Wilson, who is moving to Hamilton. Thank you, Miss Wilson, for your time and contribution to our school. We wish you all the very best for your move and your next chapter. Her last day will be at the end of week 1 in term 3.
Term Dates
Our last day of school for Term 2 is Friday 3 July. Students may go home after our Matariki concert. Term 3 begins on Monday 20 July.
As we move towards the end of the term, we thank our whaanau, staff, PTA, students and wider community for the many ways you continue to support Glenbrook School. Whether through learning conversations, sporting opportunities, the arts, cultural celebrations, or simply encouraging our tamariki each day, your contribution makes a real difference.
Naa too rourou, naa taku rourou ka ora ai te iwi. With your food basket and my food basket, the people will thrive. This whakataukii reminds us that when we all contribute, our tamariki, whaanau and school community flourish together.
Ngaa mihi nui,
Ms Lysandra Stuart
