After considerable thought and consultation with the calf club committee, it has been decided that calves will not be an option for Glenbrook School’s calf club 2019. This is due to new information that we did not have in March.
The reasons being:
- MPI, Dairy NZ, Beef and Lamb NZ do not condone or support calves at school agriculture/calf club days due to the risk of spreading MBovis.
- Waiuku Combined Schools Calf Club Association have also deemed the MBovis risk too great.
- The resources required to manage this event to the stringent criteria as suggested by Waiuku Combined Schools Calf Club Association will not be able to be fulfilled to the required standards.
It is disappointing that we have had to make this decision being the 80th Jubilee of Glenbrook Schools Calf Club but we want the celebrating of this event to be remembered for the right reasons not for the event that caused the spreading of MBovis throughout our local farming community.
We plan to make this a great calf club which will be enjoyed by all the students, parents, staff and wider community who will attend and participate.
We thank you for your support and look forward to celebrating a great 80th Jubilee with you all.
