Week 2, Term 1 Newsletter

Malo Whaanau,

Thank you everyone for your support of our first Teacher Only Day for the year. All of our staff were involved in professional development learning about the Mitey programme. We are excited to begin our journey with the Mitey programme this year. Mitey is a New Zealand–developed, evidence-based approach to strengthening mental health education in schools. It supports our children to build resilience, understand and manage their emotions, develop positive relationships, and grow confidence in who they are. Through age-appropriate learning woven into everyday classroom practice, Mitey helps normalise conversations about wellbeing and equips our tamariki with practical strategies for life. We are proud to be embedding this holistic approach as part of our commitment to nurturing confident, connected and capable learners.

EOTC

This week our years 7&8 have been hiking up Mt William and surfing at Port Waikato. Thank you to our teachers and parents who assisted. We almost had to cancel because we did not have enough parent help, so we were very relieved our aakonga had this opportunity. Next week Team Piwakawaka have their Graham Beach visit.

Kapa Haka

Kapa Haka began yesterday. Our focus this term is to prepare for the Franklin Cultural festival on Saturday 21st March. Permission slips will be sent home via Hero to confirm who is attending the cultural festival. Students who are unable to perform at the cultural festival will be able to join in Term 2 to prepare for our Matariki concert.

Parent Teacher Conferences: February 26th

Parent–Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday 26 February in your child’s classroom. Conference start times vary by class. We ask that children do not attend the conferences, as this time is set aside for you and your child’s teacher to meet and talk about your child’s aspirations, passions, and interests.

School will be open for its usual hours, with Ms Stuart organising classes. You can book your child’s Parent–Teacher Conference at www.schoolinterviews.co.nz using the code 98mp9. The link will be open today from 9am.

Home Learning Changes

Home learning looks a little different this year. Reading remains a whole-school priority, and we encourage all students to read every day. Each team has a specific home learning task, designed to be completed with whaanau and to draw on skills from across the curriculum. Please check the success criteria and due dates carefully. Presentation matters, and we look forward to celebrating the finished projects when they return to school. Our aakonga are already sharing some exciting ideas!

Celebrations

Congratulations to Parekereke, Te Kauri and Sheppard who had 100% attendance last week. Fabulous!

PTA

Thank you to all the fabulous parents who attended the PTA meeting on Tuesday. What a great bunch of mamas! We have our PTA AGM on Tuesday 10th March 7pm in the Glenbrook School staffroom. All parents are welcome to attend. Our amazing Quiz Night is on Friday 27th March. More information on how to purchase a table and tickets will be sent out soon.
