Week 8, Term 1 Newsletter
Talofa lava Whanau,
Kapa Haka
I am super proud of our incredible Kapa Haka group. Over seventy students performed on Saturday at the Franklin Multicultural Festival. We had the largest group by far and won the Franklin Multicultural Trophy which is awarded for tautoko and kaupapa. We loved the huge amounts of whanau support. Thank you to all our whanau for coming along and to those who helped get our beautiful akonga ready. Most of all, well done to all our Kapa Haka for your bravery, your strength and mana mauri. Every single one of you is a super star!
Sports
We have been very successful with Franklin Zone Swimming. In Y7&8 Eva, Lakota, Brydie, George, Maddison C and Sam M all represented Franklin at Auckland Champs yesterday. Well done to our Y5&6 our Zone day swimmers. Special mention to Kenzie C who won the open girls freestyle, the 10 year old girls freestyle, placed 2nd in breaststroke, and won the backstroke. She was named open girls champion. The Waiuku team which included all Glenbrook students placed second in the relay.
Next Tuesday is the reignition of our Waiuku Sullivans Tournament. It has been 12 years since our Y7&8 tournament took place. We are so very appreciative of our Waiuku Sports Group leading this. Good luck to our Team Pouakai. Students are involved in sports they don’t play in competitively. It is a day of connecting as a group of schools through sports.
School Closed
A reminder that we closed over the Easter break. School is closed from Friday 29th March until Tuesday 2nd April School reopens on Wednesday 3rd April. The last day of term is Friday 12th April.
A large number of students are finishing up their summer sports and others are beginning their winter sports. We love love celebrating our students in every space, sports, culture, music and the arts. If your child has won player of the day or been recognised in a special way by their club, we would love to hear about it and enhance their moment. Please email their moment and a photo to Ms Stuart.
ANZAC
Finally our ANZAC school service is at 10am on Friday 12th April. All whanau are welcome to attend and we ask that you be seated by 9.50am. Senior school council students will need to bring in a plate of baking for our RSA guests. I will send out information regarding the ANZAC town service on April 25th which we would love as many students to attend as possible.
Have a lovely weekend Glenbrook,
Noho ora mai rā,
