Week 7 Newsletter

Kia Orana and Bula Whanau,

Today our Senior Student Council attended the GRIP Student Conference. They had lots of fun with their peers reflecting on student leadership. This included ideas and ways they would strengthen and expand leadership initiatives in our school. Thanks to Mr Meredith and Mr Buckingham for supporting. 

Franklin Cultural Festival

Tomorrow our kapa haka team is performing at the Franklin Cultural Festival. This is being held at the Indian Hall in Pukekohe. The festival starts at 12.30pm. There are stalls and we are excited to see our other schools perform. Our Glenbrook team will be on between 4.15 -4.30. Our Glenbrook Kapa Haka team need to be at the Indian Hall at 3.30pm to dress and prepare. I am super proud of all the hard work our akonga have done to prepare. We would love you to come along and cheer our beautiful roopu. 

EOTC

Well done to all our akonga who represented Waiuku at Franklin Zone Swimming. Thanks to Miss Thorby for leading and Coach Sarg. A special thanks to our parents who were time keepers and transported. Congratulations to all our akonga for their efforts and to those who placed. It has been a fantastic effort by all.

Next Week
Counties Power have a planned power outage from 8.00- 3.30 on Wednesday 20th March. They are providing a generator, however if this were to fail then parents will be sent notification via the Parent Portal to collect their children. Our school water and toilets need power to operate. Our teachers have planned for a short power cut. 

Please ensure you have our parent portal downloaded and the message alert notification in the settings section is set to “on”. 

Polyfest

On Wednesday 20th March, Polyfest 2024 begins. If whanau would like to take their own children to Polyfest please email the school to let us know. Anyone can attend Polyfest, this is not just for Kapa Haka whanau. 

Polyfest is the Auckland Secondary’s School Maori and Pasifika Islands Cultural Festival. It is from March 20th to 23rd and is held at the Manukau Sports Bowl. 

The ASB Polyfest festival features traditional music, dance, costume and cultural speech competitions, and is one of the most recognised events on the Auckland calendar. It’s a showcase of New Zealand’s diverse cultures and a celebration of youth performance. For more information on this amazing event please check out: https://www.asbpolyfest.co.nz/p/4606-venue

Eye On Nature

Akonga from the Enviro Group have been given the opportunity to attend the Eye on Nature event at the Auckland Botanical Gardens on Wednesday 20th March. Akonga will engage in a range of lessons and activities all based around a different aspect of the Eye on Nature these for 2024: ‘Act Local – Growing with Te Taiao’. Akonga need to be at school by 8:50am on this day. 

A reminder that Glenbrook School will be closed from Friday 29th March to Tuesday 2nd April. School will reopen on Wednesday 3rd April.
