Kia Ora All,
Please see this week’s newsletter:
Dear Parents and Whanau,
Welcome to week 8. Thank you for your patience with the blocked roads on Monday. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who were involved. Our manaakitanga and aroha are also with our colleague’s family and whanau who were involved in the horrific car fatality in Picton.

Staff and Isolation
Like all schools, we continue to have staff away sick regularly or isolating. This week we have already had five staff away. I would like to acknowledge the huge amount of work and care from all our staff as they support each other so we can keep classes open. Please if your child is sick, keep them home. We continue to have students isolating and staying home when they are unwell. Thank you everyone.
It is with sadness we farewell Mrs White at the end of this term. Mrs White has taken a position at Kingsgate School. We want to thank Mrs White for her teaching and care in Te Whenua this term. We wish her the best of luck in her new role at Kingsgate.
Financial Literacy
Last week some classes in years 3-8 began the ASB Getwise Financial Literacy programme. Students have been introduced to concepts and ideas around smarter money management. They are involved in 1-2 workshops including Cash Clever Kiwis. Other classes will be involved this week and next.
Sexuality in Education : Health Programme
On Monday 4th July at 3pm we will be holding an information session with parents about the Sexuality in Education programme we will be teaching in Term 3. This will be held in Te Rangi. This is a legislative document recommended by the Ministry of Education and we are required to teach this annually. This is the time for you, as parents, to ask questions and be informed about the programme we will be teaching in Term 3. In Term 2 we taught the 2021 programme.
What will our students learn in Sexuality in Education?
In the early years students will develop listening skills, talk about their feelings and relationships, and look at their roles within the family. They will learn about contributing to safe environments, addressing bullying and accommodating difference. Students will be able to name body parts, and identify differences between the genders.
From year 5 onwards they will learn about the physical and emotional development of puberty, reproduction and sexual behaviour. They will learn about relationships, keeping themselves sexually safe and decision-making skills within a scientific lens.

Learning and Achievement
A reminder that each week our Senior Leadership Team sends an emailing out updating of what is happening in your child’s team. In learning you can check what your child has achieved and is working towards within their Learning Progressions. This is done in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. Assessment is updated as students complete it. All information can be found in your child’s portal using the etap app. Please contact Mrs Goodall if you need assistance with your app.
Have a wonderful week whanau,
Nga Manaakitanga,
