Week 9 Term 1 2015
Last week Glenbrook hosted Team Glenbrook’s Shave For A Cure. Our crazy hair mufti day raised $340 towards the cause. Currently the team has raised $2375. This is an amazing achievement. Photos can be found on the The Post Newspaper facebook site and our own facebook site. Franklin News also covered the assembly.
On Sunday I had the privledge in taking our Kapa Haka to the Franklin Cultural Festival. Our Years 7 and 8 team were runners up in the touch rugby module and our Years 5 and 6 team came fourth. Glenbrook had the largest Kapa Haka group. We sounded incredible. Our students displayed mana and pose as they performed. Thank you to all those that supported us throughout the day.
Yesterday the Jam Bus visited us. The whole school were recorded singing. Kapa Haka, choir and the Senior Syndicate were also recorded. The Jam Bus will be making a professional music CD which will be shared once it arrives.
Our Years 7 and 8 Kiwi Cricket team won at Sandspit School last week. Yesterday our Orienteering Y6 team came 4th, Y7 girls 5th, Y8 girls 3rd, and Y8 boys came 6th. It was a marvelous effort from all students that attended.
It has been a hectic term full of events, opportunities, sport, culture and learning. Our success this term has been due to the awhinatanga (support), manaakitanga (care) and pono (belief) you have shown our staff, students and school as family. Our greatest strengths at Glenbrook School are korero (communication) and whakawhanaunatanga (family partnerships). When we work as a team collaboratively together, then we can maximize the potential of all our students. It is exciting being the leader of such a remarkable community and it’s only the first term together!!!
Have a well deserved break everyone. Be safe, happy and make each day count.

Lysandra Stuart
