Researching Natural Disasters

Currently we are learning about Natural Disasters. We have formed small investigation teams to study and learn about one Natural Disaster. We have chosen floods, volcanoes, tsunami’s, tornado’s, mudslides and earthquakes. We are researching information to present a report to the class. I’m sure if you asked anyone in our class a question about Natural Disasters we would be able to tell you the answer! We are all very engaged and focused learners in Te Whenua!!

Hockey Skills

Te Whenua had Mike from Counties Manukau Sport come today to show us some hockey skills. We got to play ‘Follow the Leader’ while dribbling with a hockey ball, then played a mini hockey game. We still have 3 more sessions to go! We loved it!

Volcano Fun!

Today we started our Natural Disasters unit by making our own volcano. We experimented using baking soda then mixing with vinegar. Wow! What fizzing fun. 🙂

Matariki Lunch

On Friday the Junior Syndicate finished our Matariki learning with a shared lunch. Te Whenua made sandwiches to share. We first surveyed the other classes for favourite sandwich fillings, then chose the most popular to make. We made lots of yummy sandwiches including fairy bread, jam and cheese. We all worked together with lots of turn taking, collaboration, problem solving and fun! All classes shared an item at our assembly. Te Whenua shared our incredible Taniwha art. Then we got to eat and enjoy.

Football Fun!

Te Whenua had so much fun learning fun football games on Tuesday.
