Attendance at Glenbrook School
Regular attendance is essential for learning success, wellbeing and belonging. In line with the 2026 Government attendance expectations, all schools are required to have a clear attendance action plan.
At Glenbrook School, our attendance procedures outline the steps taken at each stage of a child’s absence rate. This ensures early support, consistent communication and a shared understanding of expectations.
The national attendance benchmark is 90% attendance or higher. Students attending at this level are more likely to experience positive academic progress, strong relationships and a sense of connection to their learning community.
Where attendance falls below 90%, we will:
- Monitor attendance more closely
- Communicate with parents and caregivers
- Work collaboratively to identify barriers and provide support
When attendance drops below 85%, this signals a higher level of concern. At this stage, further steps will be taken, which may include formal engagement with the student and whaanau, development of a support plan, and where required, involvement of external agencies in accordance with Ministry guidelines.
Our approach is grounded in partnership. We understand that there can be complex reasons affecting attendance, and we are committed to working alongside families to support every learner to attend, engage and thrive.
If you have concerns about your child’s attendance, please contact the school early so we can work together to find solutions.
