Akonui Hui

All aakonga and their parents / whaanau will take part in formal conversations about learning progress, achievement, and engagement twice each year. These conversations focus on Reading, Writing, and Mathematics and are held in Term 2 and Term 4, in line with current Ministry of Education requirements for twice-yearly reporting to whaanau. (This will be updated with MOE 2026 changes once they are announced).

These discussions provide clear information about each student’s progress, next steps for learning, and how whaanau and the school can work together to support continued growth.

At Glenbrook School, we strongly value student contribution and student voice as part of this process, which involves students understanding their strengths as learners, reflecting on their progress, and taking increasing ownership for their learning pathway. We call this Ako Agency. Ako Agency helps aakonga build purpose, confidence, and responsibility in their learning while strengthening the partnership between home, school, and student. A key focus with our learners will be effective questioning and critical thinking across all areas of the curriculum.
