Week 4, Term 1 Newsletter

Kia Ora e te whaanau,

As we move towards the end of another full and purposeful week, we would like to acknowledge and celebrate our ākonga for the enthusiasm, courage and commitment they have shown across so many rich learning experiences. From swimming sports, hiking, beach education, orienteering and surfing, to stepping forward into leadership and service roles within our school, our students continue to demonstrate mana, resilience and a willingness to embrace challenge. It has been wonderful to see them supporting one another and representing Glenbrook with pride.

Parent Teacher Conferences Today

A reminder Parent–Teacher Conferences are being held today in your child’s classroom. Conference start times vary by class. We ask that children do not attend the conferences, as this time is set aside for you and your child’s teacher to meet and talk about your child’s aspirations, passions, and interests.

School will be open for its usual hours, with Ms Stuart organising classes. You can book your child’s Parent–Teacher Conference at www.schoolinterviews.co.nz using the code 98mp9.

Splish Splash Day: Please note Time Change

Team Piwakawaka have their Splish Splash day on Friday 6th March. They will now start at 12 and finish at 2pm. All Team Piwakawaka students are able to wear their whaanau colours.

There is no assembly next Friday due to the number of students at group day and Splish Splash day.

Franklin MultiCultural Festival

Our kapa haka roopuu is working diligently in preparation for their performance at the Franklin Multicultural Festival on Saturday 21st March. This event is a wonderful celebration of the cultural richness within our Franklin community, and we look forward to sharing in this vibrant day alongside many local schools.

National Priorities: Attendance

Thank you to the many whaanau who continue to communicate proactively when requesting leave. We recognise that special opportunities and important whaanau occasions sometimes occur during term time, and we value working in partnership with you.

If your child will be absent, particularly for an extended period, please email me directly so we can ensure we are supporting your child’s learning and meeting our obligations together.

School attendance remains a national priority, and schools are required to monitor and report attendance rates. We appreciate your support in ensuring your child attends regularly and is ready to learn each day.

To further reduce absences related to seasonal illness, we will be reintroducing hand sanitising at the school gate each morning and providing frequent reminders to students about washing hands thoroughly, staying well hydrated, and maintaining good hygiene practices. These small, consistent actions make a significant difference in keeping our tamariki healthy and present for learning.

Congratulations to Sheppard, who achieved the highest attendance this week with a great 97.8%.

Sports

Best wishes to all students representing Glenbrook at Group Day swimming next week. Rippa Rugby trials are also underway, and it is fantastic to see so many students stepping forward to participate, try something new and extend themselves.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together we are building confident, capable learners who understand the value of effort, belonging and contribution.
