Week 2, Term 4 Newsletter
Talofa Whaanau,
Athletics
Thank you to everyone who participated in our school athletics. We are really proud of how well students competed and supported one another. Well done to all those students who competed in a final and to those who have been selected Glenbrook School at Group Day Athletics. Miss Burt will be sending out HERO permission forms and event notification slips on October 17th to those who have made it through to Group Day.
Year 0-3 Fun-letics: This Friday
A reminder that Team Piwakawaka have their Fun-letics this Friday 17th October. Sprints will begin at 9:30am, and fun field events will start at approximately 10:45am. Whaanau are welcome to attend. Students are reminded to wear Whaanau colours and a school hat.
Proposed Union Strike
You may be aware that NZEI members, including our valued support staff, have planned strike action for Thursday, 23 October 2025, as part of their continued negotiations for fair pay and improved working conditions.
While Glenbrook School will remain open, as we are able to safely staff classes and ensure student supervision, we want to clearly express our strong support for our teachers, principals, and support staff who are taking this action.
Their stand is about ensuring that the profession is valued, workloads are manageable, and every child in Aotearoa continues to benefit from high-quality teaching and support. We respect their right to advocate for the future of education and the wellbeing of all those who work in our schools.
Teacher Only Day
Glenbrook School will be closed on Friday 24th October for Teacher Only Day. There are no classes being held on this day and there is no supervision available. Our focus is on the NZ Curriculum. A reminder that all NZ schools are closed on Monday 27th October for Labour Day as this is public holiday.
2026 Enrolments
If you are in zone and your child has a younger sibling who is not yet enrolled for 2026, please make sure that we have your completed enrolment form asap. If your child is already enrolled at Glenbrook School you do not have to complete another enrolment form.
School Pool
We are expecting to open our school pool Labour Weekend to key holders. Information regarding pool keys, costs and expectations will be sent out following our Board of Governors meeting next week.
Mufti Days
We have two fun-filled mufti days coming up! A big thank-you in advance for your support and apologies that they happen to fall on consecutive weeks. Friday 31st is a Halloween mufti. Friday 7th November is our Book Character dress up day. There will be prizes for the best Book Character. This celebrates the end of our Book Fair. The cost on each day is a gold coin.
Book Fair
Our Glenbrook School Scholastics Book Fair will be running in the School library from Monday 3rd November to Friday 7th November. Book Fair will be open from 8:15-9am each morning, and again from 2:20-3pm each afternoon during that week for students and their whaanau to visit. Students will also be able to visit the Book Fair at lunchtimes. Cash or Eftpos options will be available.
NZ Teaching Standards
Over the past few months I’ve had the privilege of working alongside the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand to showcase what high-quality Professional Growth Cycles (PGCs) look like in practice. This is a measurement of how teachers meet the national Teaching Standards of NZ. I’m proud to share that Glenbrook School’s approach, grounded in high expectations, strong relationships, Inquiry and culturally responsive practice will be used as national exemplars for schools across Aotearoa. Our model makes the Teaching Standards practical and meaningful. It shows how PGCs can be learner-led, improvement-focused, and are anchored in student outcomes and teacher practice capabilities.
These Glenbrook exemplars, co-developed with the Teaching Council, will be available to all schools across Aotearoa to adapt and use in their own contexts with the 2026 Teaching Standards. I’m incredibly proud of our kaiako for the professionalism, expertise, and aroha they bring to their work every day and for representing our community so strongly on the national stage.
Love Our School
I just want to take a moment to thank each of you for your ongoing support, positivity, and partnership. The heart of our school truly lies in the strength of our community: parents, caregivers, tamariki, and staff all working together to make Glenbrook the special place it is.
Whether it’s helping at events, supporting learning at home, or simply sharing encouraging words at the gate, every act of aroha and awhi helps our children to thrive. We are so proud of the joy, creativity, and mana our students bring to school each day. That starts at home with you!
Enjoy the weekend ahead with your whaanau, take time to rest, laugh, and celebrate the small moments that make life meaningful.
Ngaa manaakitanga,
Ms Lysandra Stuart
