Week 1, Term 2 Newsletter
Kia Ora e te whaanau and welcome to Term 2. It’s been a lovely start to the term despite the weather. We’re so pleased to have children back at school and look forward to a great term together.
ANZAC Town Service
A heartfelt thank you to all our whānau who joined us at the Waiuku Town ANZAC service. It was wonderful to see so many families come together to honour the significance of this special day. Our students represented Glenbrook School beautifully, standing respectfully and proudly, embodying the spirit of remembrance and community.
We greatly appreciate your support in helping our tamariki understand and acknowledge the importance of ANZAC Day. He waka eke noa, we are all in this together.

We also extend a special welcome to our student teachers Amber Turner, Flora Haliburton and Sam Lu who have joined us this term.
We are thrilled to have these talented educators become part of our Glenbrook whaanau, and we look forward to the skills, enthusiasm, and fresh perspectives they bring to our kura. Please join us in making them feel warmly welcomed and supported as they settle into our school community.
Camp 2025
Sports Camp
We are excited to announce that 40 Glenbrook students will proudly represent our school at this year’s Sports Camp! This event offers our tamariki a wonderful opportunity to engage in friendly competition, develop valuable teamwork skills, create lasting friendships, and most importantly, have plenty of fun.
Mr Green and Ms Howell will be attending the camp, supporting and encouraging our students as they embrace new challenges and demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship. A confirmation email with all the essential details will be sent to participating families this weekend, please look out for it. We wish our Glenbrook team all the very best, Kia kaha, tamariki mā.
Snow Camp
A reminder that there will be an important meeting for all parents whose children are attending Snow Camp 2025. This is on Tuesday 6th May, 5:30 pm in Te Rangi
Mr Green, Whaea Ruth, and I have recently returned from a visit to Tuurangi, where we completed the risk assessment and finalised the organisation of this exciting event. Anticipation is growing, and we know that Snow Camp is one of the most memorable highlights of our students’ time at Glenbrook School. We look forward to seeing you there, bring your enthusiasm and questions!
Speeches 2025
We warmly invite whānau and friends to join us for our Glenbrook Speech Finals on Monday 16th June in Te Rangi. Team Kereru finalists must be seated by 5:15 pm, ready for a 5:30 pm start. Team Pouakai finalists will begin at 6:30 pm.
Speeches at Glenbrook are persuasive, and all students from Years 4 to 8 are required to prepare and deliver a speech as part of our curriculum. Students have the option to participate competitively or non-competitively. Delivering a speech provides our tamariki with valuable skills in public speaking, confidence building, effective communication, and critical thinking—skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. We look forward to celebrating the talent and courage of our amazing students.
Teacher Only Days
We have two Teacher Only Days this term. These dates have been guided by the curriculum professional development allocated to our school by the Ministry of Education. Our school will be closed on Thursday 15th May and Tuesday 3rd June. On Thursday 15th May our teachers are attending the Structured Literacy and English Curriculum and on Tuesday 3rd June we are hosting 250 educators to learn about the NZ Mathematics Curriculum. All schools are expected to implement both curriculums from 2026. There is no supervision available on these days as all staff are involved in curriculum refresh.
Akonui Hui
Akonui Hui are our mid-year reporting days. There are no classes on these days however we will have supervision available for those whaanau who need it. Please contact the office to book your child’s place. Akonui Nui are being held on Monday 26th May and Tuesday 27th May.
