Celebrating Learning at Akonui Hui
This week, we’re excited to welcome you to Akonui Hui to celebrate your child’s achievements and learning journey. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect and share in their successes.

Student Leadership for 2025
Last week, our potential 2025 whaanau leaders showcased their bravery and confidence as they presented their leadership speeches to the school. We are incredibly proud of their efforts! A huge congratulations to all students who have applied for a 2025 Role and Responsibility. The successful candidates will be announced in Week 8.

Highlights from Last Week

  • Year 8 Transition: Our Year 8 students enjoyed their visit to Waiuku College, preparing for the next step in their learning journey. A very exciting time.
  • Team Pīwakawaka Safety Visit: Students had a great time learning about safety around trucks during the Gleeson and Cox visit. Check out the photos on our facebook page.
  • Trinity Music Exams: Congratulations to the students who participated in their Trinity music exams in the city. We wish you the very best!
  • Athletics: Well done to our Group Day athletics competitors, and best of luck to those representing Glenbrook School at Zone Day athletics this Thursday.
  • EPRO8: Congratulations to all our EPRO8 teams that competed at the semifinals in Otahuhu. Our 7&8 were join winners and we had one of our 5&6 teams place second. Not bad for a little country school! We wish both teams the best of luck in the Auckland finals.
  • Jump Jam: Congratulations to our Jump Jam team who placed 2nd in Tauranga at the Jump Jam competition and 4th in NZ overall in the All Star category. A brilliant result!

Exciting Week Ahead

  • Next Monday, Ms Greenstock and I will accompany Team Pouākai to Rainbow’s End for the Intermediate Schools’ CARE Day. A reminder we will be returning between 5.00 and 5.30pm.
  • Team Kēruru have their EOTC (Education Outside the Classroom) week—an exciting time for outdoor learning and adventure as Team Kēruru celebrate their year.

Staffing Updates
We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Mr James Powdrell as our new Assistant Principal. Mr Powdrell, currently the SENCO at Pukekohe Intermediate, will lead Team Pouākai, EOTC, Learning Support, and the Mathematics Curriculum.

We also warmly welcome Ms Ruth Tate (Whaea Ruth) to Team Pouākai. Currently a facilitator with Evaluation Associates, Ms Tate brings a wealth of experience, research, and pedagogy to our school.

We wish Mrs White all the best as she leaves at the end of the year to focus on her beautiful family. Miss Simnor will also be heading back to university to pursue full-time study.

End-of-Year Prizegiving: Monday 9th December, 6pm
Our end-of-year prizegiving is a special occasion to celebrate our students’ achievements. All students are expected to attend. If your child cannot make it, please email the office.

  • Students in Years 0–7 are to wear full school uniform.
  • Please arrive at 5:45pm for a 6pm start.
  • Year 8s are to wear tidy semi-formal dress. They need to meet in Te Rangi at 5.45 to be formally welcomed into prizegiving.

We look forward to sharing this memorable evening with you all!

Transition Day and 2025 Classes: Monday 2nd December
Transition Day will take place on Monday, 2nd December. Students will meet in the hall and then spend the morning with their 2025 teacher and class, participating in team-building activities.

We remind families that class placements are based on careful consideration of academic, social, behavioural, and learning needs. As a result, changes to placements will not be made.

Year 8 students and those not returning in 2025 will spend the morning with Miss Matthews.

Pool Keys
Pool keys for the season are now available for purchase at $150, with a $10 bond refundable on return of the key by the end of Term 1, 2024.

Key holders must sign a pool agreement outlining rules and guidelines. Keys are exclusive to Glenbrook School families and must not be shared. Any breach of this rule will result in the key being revoked. Please note: active supervision by an adult is required at all times in the pool area.

Class Swimming: We are not far away from class swimming. Keep an eye on our facebook page and team notices for our start date.

Ngā mihi nui,

Ms Lysandra Stuart
