Year 8 Newsletter
Kia ora Year 8 Whānau,
It’s hard to believe this is your child’s final term at Glenbrook School! This is an important time for our Year 8s, and we will be celebrating their journey with both the Waiuku Schools Dance and the Year 8 Leavers’ Dinner. We’d like to give whānau a heads-up about these exciting events.
Waiuku Schools Dance
The Waiuku Schools Year 8 Dance will be held on Thursday, 5th December. Students are expected to dress formally. Throughout the term, our Year 8s will be learning the dance routines. The event takes place at Waiuku College. Standard school rules apply, including no digital devices, and students are expected to use their manners and demonstrate our school values. The cost for the dance is $10 per student.
We ask each student to bring a plate of food to school on the day to share at supper (please send food that does not need heating or cooking, and preferably on a disposable plate). The Team Poukai teachers and I will be welcoming students onto the red carpet. Families are welcome to stay for the first dance. More details will be shared soon.
Year 8 Leavers’ Dinner
The Year 8 Leavers’ Dinner will be held on Friday, 6th December. This is a formal event where students may invite two adults. The theme for this year’s dinner is “Middle Earth,” inspired by the magical world of elves, kings, and queens. Our dinner and decorations committee is already working hard to create a wonderful evening for our Year 8s.
The cost is $50 per family (for two adults) or $30 (for one adult). The dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Glenbrook School. Invitations will be sent out shortly.
End of Year Prizegiving
Our Glenbrook School end-of-year prizegiving will take place on Monday, 9th December. Year 8 students are not required to wear school uniform but should dress nicely (“Sunday best”). Students will meet in Te Rangi so we can call them into the hall when the prizegiving starts. Please ensure students arrive by 5:40 p.m.
If any Year 8 families require assistance with clothing or finances, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly. This is a special time for our Year 8 students, and we want to ensure every student can experience and enjoy these important events.
