Week 2, Term 4 2024 Newsletter

Kia ora e te whaanau,

We had a lovely first week of term! Both Uenuku classes led a fantastic assembly, and it was wonderful to celebrate our Glenbrook School netball players and AIMS team. Congratulations to all the students who have been elected to the School Council this term. A special well done to our students who were recognised for their Super Writing skills and demonstrated our school values.

Book Fair and Mufti Day

Our Book Fair opens tomorrow! It will be held in our library and is open to parents from 8:15-9:00 am and 2:20-3:00 pm until Friday. Please come along and support this wonderful event.

On Wednesday, we will have a mufti day where students can dress up as their favourite book character. The cost is $2.

Roles and Responsibilities 2025

On Tuesday, students in Years 4, 5, 6, and 7 will have the opportunity to preview the 2025 Roles and Responsibilities. Letters of application must be accompanied by the job description and be signed by the students and parent.

Team Pīwakawaka Funletics

This Friday, starting at 11:00 am, we have Team Pīwakawaka’s Funletics event. This will be led by our senior students. Team Pīwakawaka students are encouraged to wear their whānau colours on the day.

Staffing Update

It is with sadness that we bid farewell to Miss Matthews at the end of this year. Miss Matthews has been with Glenbrook School for the last five years as a dedicated teacher and was previously a student here. We wish her all the best as she embarks on new educational adventures.

We also warmly welcome Miss Pater to our staff. Miss Pater was an outstanding student teacher with us and has now completed her training.

New Zealand Curriculum: Structured Mathematics

We are excited to announce that the mathematics programme we introduced this year, Maths No Problem, is now Ministry-approved as part of the structured mathematics programmes. It has been aligned with the refreshed NZ Curriculum. Although we are only in our first year of the programme, we have been pleased with the depth of learning, balancing both abstract and concrete mathematical concepts.

Our facilitator, Alex Laurie, will be visiting again on Tuesday to work with our teachers. Over the past week, we’ve also shared our journey with numerous schools across New Zealand. We look forward to developing these mathematical partnerships further in 2025.

Uniform Reminders

As we enter Term 4, a reminder that all students must wear a Glenbrook School hat when outside. Students without hats will be required to play under the designated shelters.

Students are not permitted to wear nail polish of any kind. All long hair must be tied back. Earrings must be limited to studs or small, flat circles.

Please also ensure that school pants, trackpants, skirts, or skorts are plain black. Staff will inform students if their uniform is not appropriate.

Important Dates

Please note that school will be closed on Friday, 15th November, for our Kāhui Ako NZC Teacher Only Day. There will be no supervision available on this day.

Following this, we will be holding our Akonui Hui on Monday, 18th November, and Tuesday, 19th November. While there will be no classes on these days, supervision will be available for parents who require it. If you need supervision for your child during the Akonui Hui, please email the school office to secure a place. Booking links for appointments will be available early next term.

Further information about these and other events will be shared closer to the time. Additionally, looking ahead to 2025, our school will reopen on 7th February.
