Week 1, Term 3 2024
Kia ora e te whanau and welcome to Term 3. What a wonderful finish we had to Term 2 with our beautiful Matariki celebration of the cultures in our school. We are so very proud of all our children who took part. Thank you all for the huge whanau support. Whakawhanaungatanga: At Glenbrook School we work as a community together.
SiE : Health Programme
On Tuesday 23rd July at 3.30pm we will be holding an information session with parents about the SIE health programme we will be teaching in Term 3. We teach this every Term 3 and it is the same programme we have taught for the past 9 years. This information session will be held in Te Rangi. This is a legislative document recommended by the Ministry of Education and we are required to teach this annually. This is the time for you, as parents, to ask questions and be informed about the programme we will be teaching. The only difference is that we will be teaching SIE from week 2. This will be taught week 2: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 11.35-12.50. Week 3: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 11.35-12.50 and in week 4 until the programme has been completed.
What will our students learn in SIE?
In the early years students will develop listening skills, talk about their feelings and relationships, and look at their roles within the family. They will learn about contributing to safe environments, addressing bullying and accommodating differences. Students will be able to name body parts, and identify differences between the genders.
From year 5 onwards they will learn about the physical and emotional development of puberty, reproduction and social behaviour. They will learn about relationships, keeping themselves safe and decision-making skills within a scientific lens. As parents you are able to come have a look at the prescribed programme directed at your child’s level.
Smart Watches
As a Board of Governors, we have reviewed our Digital Devices and Digital Citizenship policy and procedures. Smart watches are defined as a digital device at Glenbrook School. From Term 3, like many other schools, students are not allowed to wear or bring smartwatches to school. They are being treated in the same category as a cell phone.
PTA
There is a PTA meeting in the Glenbrook School staffroom on Tuesday 23rd July at 7.30pm. All parents are welcome. We will be focusing on Calf Club, so all help is welcome.
EOTC: William Pike Challenge
A reminder for students involved in the William Pike Challenge leadership programme. Students need to ensure their Passion Project and Community Service hours are up to date, Our outdoors activity this term is our visit to Nikau Caves on Tuesday. Please be at school at 8.30am so we can leave on time.

Franklin hockey is next week for those students who made the team. Years 7&8 are competing on Tuesday 30th July and years 5&6 are competing on Wednesday 31st July. We are still needing referees so if you can help, please contact Miss Thorby thorbyt@glenbrook.school.nz
