Week 6, Term 2 Newsletter
Po Marie Whanau,
Well done to Te Whenua on their lovely assembly this afternoon. We loved their science dioramas about the water cycle. Congratulations to all our students who were recognised for their Ako in writing and showing their school values across the school.
Iwi Planting
A huge thank you to all our seniors who helped with planting at Reretewhio Marae. Along with our other Waiuku Schools, we planted over 5000 plants. In the last two weeks that’s over 12000 plants. What a great contribution to the development of our local areas. Pai rawe!
Franklin Schools TOD
All our staff from across our Franklin Schools in Tuakau, Pukekohe, Waiuku and surrounding areas had an amazing day at Due Drop Centre on Tuesday at our Franklin Schools Teacher Only Day. Dr Russell Bishop challenged our pedagogy with his research from his book Leading to the North East. Pukekohe North Kapa Haka were tingling with their commanding Kapa Haka performance. Te Kahu Rolleston’s blend of humour and poetry to engage our students as writers was inspiring and informative as he showed his power of storytelling and the value in messages behind our own stories. Dr Alison Davis was practical in her ideas of structured literacy, the science of reading and the importance of consistent regular teaching. Te Radar weaved the day together with his sense of humour, love of Aotearoa history and the power of storytelling.
It was a rich day empowering our staff with inspiring pedagogy, practicalities and the ways we as educators can add value to our classrooms and schools. I’d like to thank our staff and schools for their engagement and learning on the day.
