Week 5, Term 2 Newsletter
Kia Ora e te Whanau,
The last few weeks we have had a lot of sick akonga and kaiako. While attendance at school is very important, please keep your child home if they are sick and notify the school. Much of the illness in school may have been avoided by our kaiako if sick akonga had been kept home until they were well. Whilst we will do what we can to find relievers, if we are unable to safely staff classes or the school, we will close classes. This long weekend, we hope that our kaiako and tamariki are able to rest up and put the winter illnesses behind us.
We had great fun on our PJ and Onesie mufti day. Even though it was a windy day, our tamariki enjoyed being in their snuggly clothes.
EOTC
Thank you to all our kaiako and whanau who have assisted with sports and other EOTC. Team Kereru had a great day at Stardome and all our akonga who attended have shared what a great day it was. Thank you to all our Team Kereru kaiako and whanau for your support and assistance on the day and to Miss Thorby for organising and leading.
Well done to our senior kapa haka rangatahi and senior akonga who attend Tahuna Pa as part of our Iwi Planting initiative. 7000 plants were planted and it was a great opportunity for our akonga to mix with other schools and learn about Tahuna Pa. On Wednesday we are planting at Reretewhio Marae. Thank you Ms Clark for helping us.

It is that time of year when all our Franklin Schools from years 4-8 are writing and preparing for speeches. Matariki Concerts
The Waiuku Matariki concert is on Friday 21st June. Our Glenbrook Kapa Haka will be performing just after 5pm. We would like akonga to get ready at Glenbrook School. Parents will need to collect their child from Glenbrook School and take them from Waiuku College after the performs. (Although you are more than welcome to stay and watch the rest of the performances). We will cook a sausage sizzle school so tamariki have had something to eat before we go start getting ready. A notice will come home next week for parents of kapa haka tamariki. If you have not received a notice by Friday 7th June, please email the office. Kapa Haka akonga names change each week as akonga leave and return.
Our Glenbrook Matariki Concert is on Friday 5th July and will start at 4pm. (This is on the last day of term). All akonga are able to stay at school to get ready for the concert.
